Bio

José's research focuses on understanding the mechanisms that regulate the dynamics of living organisms and their ecosystems in a changing world. Most of his work is in tropical forests, and he's  particularly interested in trees and lianas and their interactions with the environment. His questions focus on the interplay between environmental factors and forest structure, composition, and productivity, and how trees and lianas respond to changing environmental conditions. His approaches include observational studies, experiments, and modeling.  His current postdoctoral project aims to develop a pantropical analysis of nutrient controls on the dynamics of tree recruitment, growth, and mortality.
