The 16-hectare Huai Krading Forest Dynamics Plot was established in 1999 at Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary by Sarayudh Bunyavejchewin of the Royal Forest Department, Thailand. The plot is situated approximately one and a half kilometers west of the HKK 50-hectare plot, with elevations ranging from 521 to 571 meters above sea level.
The structure and composition of the forest is intermediate between seasonal evergreen forest and deciduous forest. The upper canopy is predominantly deciduous during the dry season, while the subcanopy consists mostly of evergreen species. Thai foresters have typically classified this forest type as moist deciduous forest. Ground fires occur occasionally in the Huai Krading FDP. The 16-hectare plot contains approximately 200 species and 60,000 individual trees.
Five censuses of the plot have been conducted to date, occurring in 1999, 2005, 2010, 2016, and 2021. Funding for these efforts has primarily been provided by Sarayudh Bunyavejchewin, with the exception of the 2010 census, which was supported by the Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation, Thailand.
